David May Preview: Blackburn

Former United defender David May previews the New Years Eve game with both of his former clubs that he represented in the Premier League, Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers.

Can we go top of the League for the Gaffers 70th birthday… Of course we can!

A few weeks ago it looked like City might run away with the title and everyone was getting upset but its funny how things can change. We have had one of the best Christmases in years, all the other top teams have dropped points while we are scoring goals for fun and have tightened up at the back. As I always like to say, keep the faith!

We still have a lot of work to do but I expect us to pick up another three points on New Years Eve, Blackburn have had a dreadful start to the season. Steve Kean has taken so much abuse and yet his players are still giving everything for him. You have to respect the man for trying but we are just plain better than them and will prove it early on Saturday afternoon. I am not sure what the situation was with Berba earlier on in the season but I am very happy to see him getting another chance in the first team. He has so much quality it is scary at times and as everyone knows he can score goals!!! I think the Gaffer will reward his good form with another start and I can see him getting hatful!

Danger man: Yakubu

Feed the Yak and he will score! He has an incredible record this season, he looked to be going nowhere with Everton, then went on loan to the Championship and it seemed like his career was winding down but Rovers needed a striker and he has filled that role perfectly. If Blackburn stand any chance of staying up he will be their main man. He scores all types of goals, is super strong, creative and finishes for fun. The only ever criticism you hear is that he is lazy but if you can put the ball in the back of the net who cares!

Prediction : United are gonna win 5-0 against Blackburn Rovers including another hat-trick for Berba!

Blackburn in the past have had a habit of derailing us when we are doing well, so this game won’t be easy. We have to focus and play at 100% to win and its important that we do so. We have to keep up the pressure on Man City and provide them with no encouragements before they play. I agree that Berbatov deserves to keep his place and start alongside Rooney. You can’t drop a man after his scores a classic goal against Fulham and a hat-rick in his next match. Also it is going to be hard to drop Lindergaard considering his form and record.

The rumours are that Rio will be back, probably alongside Evans in defence, with Jones also returning but likely to be either at RB or CM. If Rio does come back, I would bet on DeGea making a return – while I’m the last person to be be second-guessing Fergie, I am pretty sure Anders got the nod against Wigan as he is fluent in English and could assist in organising a defence that included part-time centreback Michael “Not as Bad as Geno says” Carrick.

By the way, it’s also rumoured that Chris Smalling is out, possibly for 3 months, with glandular fever. What’s next, an ebola outbreak? Has anyone seen Owen Hargreaves hanging around Carrington with bags of germs and bacteria???

This article displays a typical arrogant Man United attitude which is why they are the most hated football team in the country. Man City are now the best team in Manchester by a long way, clearly shown by their 6-1 thrashing of United and David May would be wise to remember this. Drop the smarmy attitude and think before you presume an all too easy victory for a team that was once invincible but now can be beaten by a team that you are ‘plain better than’. It’s time Fergie retired because United’s dominance in the premier league is at an end and he is in danger of becoming a sad obsessed old man. The interesting thing is how quickly their fans will last, everyone knows United’s fans are from everywhere except Manchester, so I suspect they will soon become fans of other currently successful sides like the sad, glory hunting armchair supporters that they are.
