Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey has blasted the decision not to send off PSV’s Moreno for the tackle that broke Luke Shaw’s leg last night.
Halsey said on his Kicca page ‘Just seen Luke Shaw’s challenge/ Referee has to consider if a challenge is:
Careless-free kick only
Reckless-free kick yellow card
Reckless with excessive force or brutality endangering the player’s safety is a RED card now let’s look at the criteria
Was the the PSV player:
Out of control of his actions
Was he at speed
Was he off the ground
Did he have any chance of playing the ball
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of SERIOUS FOUL PLAY, and in my opinion that challenge met the criteria and should have been a RED card.’
Halsey is one of many in the game who have spoke out in their horror of the tackle. Former Hull City striker Craig Fagan also took to his Kicca page to say, ‘Surely that was a red for the tackle on Luke Shaw. Feel for him was of to a great start this season after everyone doubting he would even be at Man United after last season. Breaking your leg isn’t great but I’m sure he will be back to the level he reached this season.’
