EXCLUSIVE: United Legend – De Gea Saga ‘Very Disappointing’

Manchester United legend Mike Duxbury says he is surprised by the decision to not play David De Gea tomorrow against Tottenham and also expressed his disappointment in the goalkeeper’s lack of respect to the club.

Louis van Gaal confirmed that De Gea will miss tomorrow’s game due to the player’s repeated links to Real Madrid and Duxbury, who played more times than anyone for the Reds in the 1980’s, feels that the explanation isn’t sufficient.

‘I find it surprising that David De Gea apparently can’t play. If his head’s not right, get it right – you’ve had all pre-season!’ said Duxbury. ‘He’s just had the best season of his career. I can’t buy a line about lack of mental toughness considering the criticism he received in his first year at United. He did so well and clearly is able to focus. It’s very disappointing.’

‘Even though you know he wants to move, and why, for the agents and his partner to get involved all seems unnecessary,’ Mike exclusively told RetroUnited.com. ‘United have shown that they’ll sell him if the price is right. If Real Madrid have not met that price, it’s not United’s fault – they have respected the player’s position, so he should respect theirs.’

Duxbury also criticised Angel Di Maria and said the winger will ‘not be missed’ after his transfer to PSG.

‘For him to cost so much money and only have 2 or 3 good moments was a let down’ admits the former defender. ‘He had problems, but you leave them behind and use your football as a chance to escape. He never did that. For what he showed at Old Trafford, he won’t be missed.’
