Good News: Club chief confirms Man United’s strong interest in Ivan Perisic

By Dave Marshall

Despite claims to the contrary, Manchester United are no closer to signing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. The winger has been linked to a move to Old Trafford all summer, and sporting director of the 2010 Champions League winners has stated that the club won’t be bullied into selling one of their prized assets.

News broke out on Friday that Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has issued an ultimatum to Chief Executive, Ed Woodward to get the Croatian international at all costs, as he feels the player will be a key addition to his squad as they look to compete on all fronts next season.

Walter Sabatini, the club’s sporting director and representative of the Suning Group who are owners of the club, has stated that Perisic is seen as a key player for the Milan based side, stating that they want to keep their quality players and after seeing their cross town rivals, AC Milan strengthen remarkably this summer. He believes that letting Perisic go won’t be a smart move on their part.

Sabatini told respected Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio that: “Inter hasn’t done much regarding transfers yet? It can be done quietly.

“It’s a silent market, also because Inter is aiming at difficult targets.

“Will Perisic leave? I’ll say things as they are: [Luciano] Spalletti [Inter manager] wants to keep him.

“We want to keep him but we also want to keep who’s got the right motivations.

“Manchester United’s interest is strong but they know what we think and it’s Inter’s role to say how much the player costs.

“Players about to leave? No, Inter haven’t the need to sell, we could decide to but there’s no urging to do it since Suning [Inter’s owners] is a powerful group.”

Inter want to topple Juventus from the top of Italian football and Perisic is seen as a key player in the actualisation of that dream of new boss, Luciano Spalletti for next season. United have seen several bids rejected for his services, as the Red Devils stall on making a mammoth £45m bid for his services. He has fired in 18 goals in 70 league matches for the San Siro outfit since joining 2 years ago.
