German attacker Mesut Ozil is eyeing a shock move to rivals Manchester United at the end of his contract next summer, according to reports.

The 28-year old has refused to sign a new contract with the Gunners and could leave on a free transfer next summer. The Sun reports that the playmaker has been offered a deal worth £8.1 million-per-year contract to remain at the club.

If the report is to be believed, the German international wants to re-unite with his former boss Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, he worked with the Portuguese for three years at Real Madrid before leaving for Arsenal in 2013.

Manchester United have been linked with a left-footed midfielder all summer with the likes of Ivan Perisic and Gareth Bale topping the list, but none materialised. The prospects of Ozil working with the Special One once again could be tempting, Nemanja Matic would free him off any defensive duties and could bring back the Mezut Ozil of Real Madrid if he joins the Red devils.

He has been criticised for his performance on the field recently both by the supporters and club legends. A move to the red part of Manchester would bring back memories of former Gunners captain Robin Van Persie after leading the Red devils to the title.

Below are some of the tweets by some Manchester United fans after Mezut Ozil was linked to the Red Devils

The 28-year-old played 33 games for the Gunners in the Premier League last season, scoring 8 goals and providing 9 assists. He was instrumental in their FA Cup triumph last season.
