Manchester United History 1878-1990 Now Live

A major part of our decision to undergo the recent rebrand to RetroUnited.com was to accommodate the growth in traffic we had enjoyed and also expand to incorporate new ideas we had come up with.

The Collector’s Club with Iain McCartney is already live. Iain has written a couple of fantastic articles which can be found on the website.

Another major feature which has been a work in progress has been producing the complete history of Manchester United from their birth as Newton Heath in 1878 to the present day. Today we’re delighted to share the first stage of this database, from 1878 up until the early days of Sir Alex Ferguson and the 1989/90 season.

Every fixture and every known goalscorer and attendance is available through navigating around our history page and we are also excited to share, for the first time, all available squad pictures and changes to the official match day programme, in one convenient place.

All known complete squad statistics are included, too.

Shortly we will bring the final stage of this work with the rest of the seasons from 1990 to the present day.

While there are a number of reliable sources online for similar information we are excited to bring something unique to the table with the addition of images and memorabilia; and in the near future, RetroUnited.com will also become the first and only Manchester United website bring every single reserve result since 1949.

We hope you enjoy the new features on the website. Why not start by entering the early 1900’s and the renaming of the club to Manchester United? Or plunge into the war years for all available results? With the number of former players we are fortunate to have help on the website, it’s no secret we are fond of the 1970’s – so take the time to have a look around one of the most infamous decades in Manchester United history.
