Paul Merson predicts Liverpool v Manchester United game

Manchester United travel to the Merseyside on Monday, where we will lock horns with the high-flying Reds in a Premier League game. The odds are against us, having failed to churn out consistent result thus far in the English Premier League.

A stark contrast is the case of our Monday night host, who are the toast of football pundits. Away from Anfield, they have thumped the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal already but they don’t look like they will be slowing down sooner.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp won the Barclays Manager of the Month award after guiding his team to maximum points in the month of September. That goes to show that we have our work cut out in trying to defeat this dedicated and unrelenting youthful side.

Meanwhile, don’t take my word for it. Paul Person has delivered his weekly verdict on the EPL games and here’s what he has been saying:

“I don’t think Man Utd will be able to live with Liverpool’s attacking players and if the hosts start quickly they will have too much at Anfield.

“This is a huge game for Man Utd, though, because I’m predicting Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham all to win, and the gap could grow quickly. All the top teams are capable of stringing six wins together so you don’t want to be playing catch-up this early.

“I’m not sure Jose Mourinho knows his best team yet and he needs to get that sorted. They played well for 20 minutes against Stoke, but for a large part of that game they didn’t look like scoring.

Considering the way Liverpool press high, I think Man Utd will struggle to open the game up.”

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-1

United are three points adrift of fourth placed Liverpool on the Premier League log, anything but a win against Liverpool will see us lose our footing in the race to qualifying for Champions League football. There is no doubt that we have a world-class team but, it’s high time they hit the ground running.
