Press Red: 30th June : Ramos Wants To Sign, Schweinsteiger Doesn’t

According to Graham Hunter, Sergio Ramos has told Real Madrid in no uncertain terms he wants to leave and join Manchester United. Look, we still believe this will end with him signing a new contract at the Bernabeu, but we are a little excited now.

Petr Cech’s confirmed transfer to Arsenal yesterday probably helped strengthen United’s resolve too – with each top goalkeeper that leaves, or signs a new deal to stay, surely our chances of holding firm and keeping David De Gea rise? Maybe, maybe not. Just a theory. De Gea has been told to report back to pre-season training (professional told to do job – headline?) so that will apparently piss him right off.

Bastian Schweinsteiger said that a fourth league title in a row is the aim for Bayern Munich next season and so that is being translated as him saying he doesn’t want to join United. Fair do’s. It’s also being translated that our move for Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton is now as a consequence of that ‘rejection’. So much for those who said we wanted both. And Southampton say they have received no serious bid for their midfielder. Maybe we won’t get either. Gulp.

Turkish outlet trtspor claim that United have agreed a deal for Arda Turan, who made that always classy move by declaring he was set to leave over Twitter. Nice little player, but surely a ‘B’ category kind of player. For a team with a ‘D’ midfield (although we’re improving)  it’s not a bad plan.

You do get the feeling something’s about to happen, but as for when it hits, that’s anyone’s guess. Probably five minutes after you’ve read this.
