TEAM NEWS: How United Will Line Up Against Tottenham

As Louis van Gaal confirmed today that David De Gea and Bastian Schweinsteiger will not start against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow, the selection appears to be fairly straightforward.

Sergio Romero hasn’t played in pre-season and Victor Valdes is out of favour so that leaves Sam Johnstone and Anders Lindegaard – and, with the former being the one with minutes under his belt in friendly games, it fits into Van Gaal’s usual philosophy that the youngster will be the one selected tomorrow.

Marcos Rojo has also not played in pre-season and so Daley Blind is expected to continue in the left sided centre half position. Chris Smalling progressed into the senior role in the right hand side of defence and will start tomorrow.

Ander Herrera may be the one who is at most risk of missing out with Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick sure to start, but that depends on whether Juan Mata will be chosen as a midfielder or Ashley Young will play on the wing. It may well be that Memphis, who will surely be given his debut, will play as a forward with Rooney as an advanced midfielder though in all probability Young will be a substitute.

The game will kick off at 12:45pm and is live on BT Sport.
