United ‘about to sign Ronaldo’ claims journalist

We’ve been here before a few times in the last few years but Artur Petrosyan – a Russian journalist, who’s verified on twitter for what it’s worth – claims that Manchester United are ‘about to’ re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Santos Marquez, the agent of Iker Casillas, recently claimed that Ronaldo is planning to leave Real Madrid.

‘Will anyone speak out in Madrid as to why Cristiano has sold his image rights to Peter Lim?’ said Marquez. ‘That’s not normal; it suggests Cristiano is planning to leave. Imagine Cristiano generating 40million euros elsewhere and giving it to Peter Lim, Valencia’s owner. It ends up in Valencia’s coffers and that’s deplorable.’

United have been linked with a ‘mystery’ striker although Louis van Gaal has suggested that this was a case of journalists putting two and two together and making five.

However, with this suggestion from Petrosyan, a few more column inches are sure to be filled with talk of Ronaldo possibly returning to Manchester. The prospect of a vacant number 7 shirt will do little to dampen the speculation.

With Raul’s goal record in sight, we’ll file this one under very doubtful.
