10 years at Manchester United is a long time to be considered a club icon. Michael Carrick may not be revered at Old Trafford in the same manner the fans worship the likes of Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo. Yet, he has been adored for his Manchester United career, as over the years, he has offered a calm presence in midfield. The reintegration of Carrick back into the first team, which has enabled world record signing, Paul Pogba to thrive.
But, at 35, the England midfielder and United know that he is on the home run at the club. Report according to the Metro Via Italian media outlets claim that the Red Devils have identified 24 year old PSG star,Marco Verratti as a tailor made replacement for the veteran midfielder. The Italian midfielder is said to be unhappy in France, as he feels he is being unfairly targeted by the media. Verratti is a classy midfielder known for his calmness in possession, fiery streak and willingness to compete with the best players.
Verratti, who joined PSG as a teenager in the summer of 2012 after a wonderful break out season with Pescara in Serie B. He is currently valued at £32m, and has a contract with the French champions which expires in 2021. Manchester United have identified the player as they believe he offers a similar style to Carrick, orchestrating things from deep and pulling the strings and offering the attack minded players a platform to express themselves. He has played 4 years for the capital club, and could be tempted by a new challenge, and may love the prospect of turning Manchester United into superpowers once again, alongside other superstars.
The likes of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin are expected to leave the club in the nearest future, freeing up space for Verratti. A January bid of £40-45m may be submitted to test PSG’s resolve. Despite all these links to United though, Verratti to Old Trafford is still not cast in stone. He will offer quality to the midfield of the club and long term option to Jose Mourinho.
