4-2-3-1: Strongest probable lineup to defeat Brighton & Hove Albion

By Mark Weasley

Manchester United will entertain newly promoted side Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford today and we will be hoping to continue our impressive unbeaten home form having scored 19 goals and have only conceded one so far in the Premier League this season.

Jose Mourinho will likely make some changes to his starting lineup after resting some key players in our shocking mid-week 1-0 loss to Swiss side FC Basel in the Champions League and key players such as David de Gea, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Juan Mata are all expected to return to the starting eleven for the Seagulls visit today.

The Red Devils will be hoping to banish the memories of our shocking defeat away to FC Basel in mid-week by returning to winning ways against Chris Hughton’s side. The Seagulls have been impressive so far in the league and currently sit ninth on the log, and wouldn’t be an easy ride for us as they have proven recently they can be a hard nut to crack but with the all-round quality we possess, grinding out a win shouldn’t be difficult for us. We take a look at Manchester United predicted line-up against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Goalkeeper

Spanish international David De Gea is expected to return in goal, the 25-year-old has been impressive so far this season having conceded the least number of goals (6) and would be hoping he can add to his cleansheet tally against the Seagulls today.

Defence

United defence has been impeccable so far in the League this season having conceded (5) goals away from home and have only conceded just one goal at Old Trafford this season.

Antonio Valencia is expected to replace Matteo Darmian in the starting lineup today against the Seagulls after he was rested in mid-week, while in the heart of defence the centre back pairing of Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo is expected to continue after manager Jose Mourinho ruled out the impressive defensive pairing of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly who are still out injured. At left back, Ashley Young is expected to replace Daley Blind in the starting line-up after being rested for the mid-week clash against FC Basel.

Midfield

The return of influential midfielder Paul Pogba has seen United revert to our attacking best after coming back from a goal down to thrash the Magpies 4-1 at Old Trafford last weekend. Nemanja Matic who started from the bench in mid-week is expected to return to the starting lineup to partner French midfielder Paul Pogba in the middle of the park.

In attacking midfield, Anthony Martial is expected to retain his place on the left side of the midfield after his goal restored parity for us against the Magpies last weekend, while Juan Mata  is expected to play behind the striker.

On the right hand side of the midfield, Marcus Rashford is expected to start ahead of Jesse Lingard after he started from the bench in mid-week and would be hoping to continue his impressive display after he assisted Paul Pogba for his goal last weekend.

Attack

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku is expected to lead the line barring any injuries ahead of Veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after ending his goal drought against the Magpies last weekend.

The Belgian international has been sensational for us and will be hoping to add to his impressive tally of 8 goals and 3 assists in 12 Premier League games so far this season.

Probable lineup: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Young, Matic, Pogba, Martial, Mata, Rashford, Lukaku.
