It seems the new transfer policy at Manchester United these days is to sign the best young players in world football. The Red Devils are reportedly close to signing Corinthians left back, Guilherme Arana. The Brazil youth international is highly rated in Brazil, and it is believed United will make a move for him in the January transfer window.
Metro via Calciomercato reports that Arana’s agent was spotted at Manchester United in a bid to get a deal done for the player. Jose Mourinho has identified the left back as a player with massive potential as he has been far from impressed with his options on the left side of defence. The likes of Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have all flattered to deceive this season, so the club are looking at options to compete with the aforementioned players.
The player has long been courted by Inter Milan. He was linked with a move to San Siro earlier in the year, but the two clubs were unable to agree terms over his transfer fees and add-on clauses. Tottenham, the Premier League outfit are also believed to be in the race for the highly rated defender.
Spurs representatives met with the player last month, but a deal fell through as both parties could not agree terms for the defender. It seems United have stolen a march on their rivals for his signature, as it is believed they have agreed personal terms with the teenager, and will submit a bid of £5m for him in January.
Arana is a left back who places emphasis on his passing range and tough tackling. He has played 10 games for Corinthians this season, totaling 498 minutes on the pitch. His lack of height makes him a liability in aerial duels, and due to his age and relative inexperience, has been known to suffer concentration lapses in games. He is valued at €1m and has a contract with his current club till 31/12/2019.
Based on statistics and current ability, Arana wouldn’t be the solution to United’s ills if he joins in January, but is a signing for the future as he has massive potential.
