In terms of football ability, Antoine Griezmann, in recent years, has shown he is up there with the best names football can offer. Under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, the 25 year old has become a household name, churning out consistent performances week-in and week-out. The Metro via Sunday Mirror claims that the former Real Sociedad forward has stated his preferred destination, should he decide to swap Spain for England. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation of Griezmann at the Vincente Calderon, but it is believed the presence of Paul Pogba at Old Trafford has made his decision more straightforward.
In 14 appearances for Los Rojiblancos this season, Griezmann has scored 8 times and laid on a further six for his teammates. He has a contract till the end of 2021, but the potential departure of mentor, Simeone may quicken his exit. The Argentine manager is believed to be open to seeking a new challenge next season, as he is tired of competing with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, with less resources and mixed results. French club, PSG are also interested in his services, but with his valuation currently at £80m,it might be a big ask for the French giants. Griezmann maintains a very close relationship with Pogba, and the world record signing could be a key factor in his friend swapping Madrid for Manchester.
Speaking to reporters last week, Griezmann confirmed he has talked to Pogba about United. He said,
“I always ask Paul Pogba about Manchester United. I think they are a huge club with a really good infrastructure,” “You hear a lot of things about Manchester United and Paris St-Germain but right now I don’t see me moving to a new club.”
“But It would be awesome to play alongside Paul one day.” he added.
Jose Mourinho has identified Griezmann as the long term replacement to Wayne Rooney. The 31 year old Englishman is gradually declining in his ability as a footballer.
Griezmann is classy left footed striker, who is also adept at playing anywhere across the front three. He offers remarkable finishing, creativity, positional discipline and ambition to be one of the world’s best players, attributes which make him the ideal replacement for the Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney.
