Rafa Benitez says that he is ‘sure’ Sergio Ramos will remain at Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants walloped Manchester City in a friendly in Australia earlier and afterwards, Benitez is quoted by AS as saying, “Long ago, when I spoke with Iker (Casillas) and Sergio, I knew their respective situations. They knew my opinion too. Sergio knows from day one that I want him to stay and I am sure he will remain here.”
Gerry Armstrong, one of Sky’s La Liga experts, has also claimed that none of Real Madrid’s stars will be leaving for United this summer.
However, in a further demonstration that nobody actually really knows what’s going on, journalist Pablo Garvia Cuervo has told Radio MARCA this afternoon, “Sergio has made his mind up. Florentino also wants Sergio to leave, but Real Madrid want it to seem like Sergio is the one who wants to leave because he isn’t very ‘madridista’. If Florentino Pérez wanted to keep Casillas, he hid it very well. The same is happening with Ramos.”
Our thoughts? Well, we felt at the start this would all end with a public declaration of how Sergio Ramos will see out his career at Real Madrid.
It seems like that’s the case. Rafael Benitez isn’t exactly shy of making public statements that come back to bite him on the rear end but it would be quite something if Real let him do so so early into his managerial stint there.
