Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is now saddled with the responsibility of building a formidable team as the one which he inherited from Luis Van Gaal is seem to be lacking in quality and depth.
Some of the players Mourinho met at Old Trafford became fringe players and without wasting time, the Portuguese showed them the exit door of Old Trafford. Memphis Depay who was dubbed as the marquee signing of Van Gaal experienced a deep in form and Mourinho sold him.
In the last decade, Christiano Ronaldo was the biggest United star to take the world by storm but his success story would be incomplete without Wayne Rooney. Ronaldo and Rooney formed a deadly pair as they inflicted damages on the defenses of opposing clubs.
Nonetheless, the form of Rooney has dropped exponentially and despite being the Captain of United, he is fringe player. The 31-year-old midfielder cum attacker has informed his colleagues that he is going to call it quit with United at the end of this season, reports the Daily Mail.
Rooney has started only nine League games for the Old Trafford Landlords. Apparently, he is a tad unsatisfied with the current situation at United and he will seek regular playing time away from England. He has been linked with a move to the Chinese League.
Given the experience of Rooney and his leadership quality, Mourinho should not allow Rooney leave in the summer. At 31, he can still be around for a season or even two more as the younger players would learn from him.
Rooney has won five Premier League Cups with United among one Champions League trophy and other laurels in his cabinet.
