Kevin Pilkington joins us to review the defeat at Chelsea.
Yolkie : A game that seemed to start well until the cracks showed & the United we’ve grown to know and fret about this season reared it’s head. Start with the positive… Great goal from Wazza.. Is his general performance now back to it’s best?
Kevin : I wouldn’t say he’s back to where he was last season but he is getting there. He was excellent on Tuesday night and showed that he is definitely a big game player. His goal was first class and his touch and awareness was great. Hopefully he can play a massive part for the rest of the season.
Yolkie : That’s as good as it gets really. The second half couldn’t have been any more of a disaster. Some blame Martin Atkinson. He didn’t help but do you think United only have themselves to blame?
Kevin : I didn’t think United played poorly. When you go to Stamford bridge you know you are going to be under pressure for big parts of the game, but to lose was very disappointing. For the first goal United were caught on the break and away from home you wouldn’t expect that especially as they were 1-0 up. You would expect the midfield to be a bit more compact. Some of the decisions were questionable but that can’t be used as an excuse.
Yolkie : What’s more worrying – the loss last night or Vidic’s red forcing him to miss Sunday at Anfield?
Kevin : Vidic is a big loss especially if Carroll is going to play. We will miss his physical presence at the heart of the defense. But like I said after the Wigan game four points from the Chelsea and Liverpool games would have been great so now it puts a lot of pressure on United to get the win on Sunday.
Yolkie : Finally, by Monday we’ll know if we’re in an incredibly strong or weak position in the league. Would you agree that losing against Liverpool will make Arsenal favourites for the title?
Kevin : Like I just said Sunday is a huge game now. But I don’t think it will be a disaster if we don’t take all three points as there is still a long way to go. Also you can’t say that Arsenal will be favourites as well. They have got some big games coming up and are also without key players.
