Manchester United have released Tom Thorpe, it has been confirmed.
Thorpe is joined by Ben Amos, Ryan McConnell, Callum Evans as United announced their retained list.
Elsewhere, former Reds defender Wes Brown has been released by Sunderland.
Thorpe may have cause to feel aggrieved at his lack of opportunities to impress last year after captaining the reserve side for some time. But when the Reds suffered injuries in their defence, it was instead Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair who were called upon and given prolonged opportunities. Thorpe, meanwhile, was given just a few minutes as a substitute against West Ham at the start of the season.
Thorpe has represented England at all levels from U16 to U21.
Meanwhile, Ben Amos has been tipped to sign for Bolton Wanderers.
After struggling with homesickness, McConnell was showing signs of progress, but has not had his contract renewed at Old Trafford.
