David May Preview: Sunderland

Former Manchester United defender David May gives his thoughts on the upcoming Sunderland match and also pays tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson, who completes 25 years in charge of the club this weekend. Read on for a special offer from Setanta Sports exclusively for our Irish readers.

Bouncing back after the City nightmare was always going to be key and I think we have done it. Three straight wins without conceding a goal shows we are defiantly on the road to recovery. Ok, one team was Aldershot, one team no one had ever heard of but the other was away to Everton which is always a difficult trip. It looks like the gaffer has told the lads to concentrate at the back first and then we are always likely to score with the quality players we have going forward. The game in midweek was a little strange because Wazza was playing very much in a centre midfield role, I thought he did well, spraying the ball about, setting up chances and obviously getting his goal was a bonus. I have got to be honest, I would prefer to see him playing further up the pitch but when we have a few players out he can definitely do a decent job in there.

Onto the Black Cats, they have had a difficult start to the season but Brucie needs to be given time. Ok, failing to beat Swansea, Norwich and West Brom isn’t great but they got a draw at Anfield and beat Bolton at the Reebok. He has got a few good players there who need to step there game up, Wes Brown and John O’Shea will always give 100%, Larsson and Vaughan add quality in the centre of the park and Bendtner and Sessegnon should be getting more goals! I thought they would have a good season and may have been pushing for Europe but it hasn’t happened yet. That’s not to say they can’t go on a run (after the game at Old Trafford), get some wins, confidence and move up the table. As for the game on Saturday afternoon, the gaffer will pick a very strong side and we will win!

One last thing, as everyone knows the Gaffer is coming up to celebrate 25 years as manager of Manchester United on Sunday… WOW!! What a man – he has done and won everything in the game, he has been an inspiration to millions of people, fans, players, coaches, just about anyone you can think of. There aren’t enough words to even start to say how much he has done for this great club, so all I am going to say is, THANK YOU.

Danger man: Nicklas Bendtner

It seems like he has been around for quite a while but he’s still only 23, I remember him scoring a few goals when he was on loan at Birmingham, then he went back to the Gunners and never really seemed to step it up. He comes across very confident which is a good attribute to have as a striker but then most people remember him for missing that chance away to Barcelona last season which is never a good thing. Maybe he will find his home at the Stadium of Light, I don’t think he has enough quality to be a regular at Arsenal so it might work out best for everyone.

Prediction : United are going to win 3-1 against Sunderland & something tells me Park might score!!!!
