Former United star Markus Neumayr believes the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimović will have a huge impact at the club both on and off the field.
Markus, who was at United as a young player between 2003 and 2006, thinks that Zlatan could be the kind of player United have lacked in recent years: “Zlatan will not only be a big character on the field but off it as well. A player of his character has been missing in the past few years and I think the supporters will absolutely fall in love with him.”
Ryan Giggs has announced his departure from the club in recent days after 29 years of service. Here, Markus shares memories from his time at the club of arguably the most decorated player in United’s history: “It’s disappointing, Giggsy has had a big impact in the last 30 years and they will struggle to find anyone in the future who will have as much charisma as he had.
“He was the role model that everyone looked up to, he always helped the younger players because he knew how difficult it was to come up through the ranks.”
Markus now plays his football in Switzerland for FC Luzern and is back in training after a relaxing summer: “The summer break has been great, I went with my family to Formentera to get some rest after a hard season.
“Now we are in pre-season which is the hardest time of the year for any footballer but I am looking forward to the start of our season on 23rd July.
“I am looking forward to getting back on track in the league and helping us qualify for the group stages of the Europa League.”
