Former Manchester United star Sammy McIlroy believes that his old club will still sign ‘one or two’ players with just over twenty four hours left in the transfer window.
Four players have already signed with the announcement of Daley Blind imminent, and McIlroy believes that another midfielder may still come in.
“The new manager’s bringing in players – I think there’ll be one or two players coming in yet and there’ll be one or two more out of the door,” says McIlroy. “I think the defeat against MK Dons helped him realise who and what he needs and who time is up for.”
United have been heavily linked with a move for AC Milan’s former Man City midfielder Nigel de Jong while the dampened Arturo Vidal rumours continue to quietly rumble.
“The identity of the players coming in all depends on what Louis feels he still needs in the team,” insists United legend McIlroy. “De Jong is a steady player, a good ball winner, and van Gaal knows all about him. Nigel knows the Premier League, he’s a holding player who breaks play up so we’ll wait and see how that pans out.”
There’s talk about Vidal still, and the Daley Blind signing which I think will be a fine addition… I think the manager knows exactly what he wants and once he’s got his players in place we’ll see the improvement that we all want to. If he wants something he goes and gets it – we’ve seen very quickly that’s the kind of manager he is.”
