Manchester United legend Gordon Hill has questioned the club’s transfer activity over the last 24 hours, saying it is ‘bonkers’.
‘I don’t understand what Louis van Gaal is doing – we seem to have gone bonkers,’ says Hill. ‘The De Gea mess is just unbelievable and then we go and spend another £36m – £36m on a player who is totally unproven.’
That player is Monaco forward Anthony Martial, who is said to have already undergone his medical and will see his transfer confirmed this morning.
‘I don’t think that’s helping anything. They say he has pace, but so does Usain Bolt – Martial’s figures don’t look that impressive at senior level and United need goals,’ Hill says.
United allowed a number of players to leave yesterday and that was following a few days where Jonny Evans and Tyler Blackett also departed. ‘I do agree with sending Januzaj on loan – he needs to see if he can develop and it seems that at the moment United can’t afford the patience,’ said Merlin.
