Forget Matic, Manchester United making progress in the pursuit of Tiemoue Bakayoko

By Dave Marshall

Manchester United have stepped up their transfer game in recent days and it seems that the trend will continue. The Red Devils have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Romelu Lukaku, in what is a huge coup for manager, Jose Mourinho and reports from Daily Star now suggest that the Old Trafford outfit could now be set for a sensational move for Monaco defensive midfielder, Tiemoue Bakayoko in a move that will most likely annoy everyone at Stamford Bridge.

League champions, Chelsea had been in the forefront to sign their former player, but their failure to reach an agreement with Everton proved to be their undoing as United sneaked in behind and agreed a move with the Merseysiders.

The same may be about to repeat itself in the case of 22-year-old France international, Bakayoko. The Monaco man gas been linked to Chelsea all summer, but it is believed that the deal is stalling, which has now allowed the Manchester giants to make a move for the player.

Monaco and Chelsea still haven’t reached an agreement and it is believed that after the Lukaku debacle, Chelsea have decided not to sell Nemanja Matic to United, as they believe that selling the Serbian will only strengthen their title rivals.

Chelsea manager had wanted to sell Matic to United to finance their transfer outlays, and now it seems that the player, who shone in the Champions League last season, is heading to The Theatre of Dreams, in what will be another gaffe for the Chelsea transfer chiefs.

Bakayoko is a defensive midfielder known for his mobility, tough tackling and great awareness of what goes in around him. If signed by Jose, he will offer protection to the backline and give Paul Pogba room to express himself further up the field. He made 53 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions last season.

If United sign Bakayoko, beating Chelsea again after the Lukaku saga, then we might as well forget about Chelsea being able to retain the premier league title. This is quite embarrassing for a team that won the premiler league and should have been able to secure these signings easily.
