Forget Matic, Mourinho makes Eric Dier a priority after Lukaku

By Dave Marshall

Manchester United have reportedly shifted their attention to Tottenham midfielder, Eric Dier as they concede that Chelsea will not want to sell Nemanja Matic to us following the Romelu Lukaku’s debacle. Chelsea had been interested in the signing of Lukaku, but reports on Thursday suggested that The Red Devils had reached an agreement with Everton in a stunning £75m deal. Jose Mourinho has identified the former Chelsea striker as his number one target as he looks to outfox his former club to the signing of the powerful forward.

This means that Chelsea are likely not to sanction the sale of 28-year-old Serbian, as they won’t want to strengthen a direct rival again given the manner in which they have been usurped to the signing of Lukaku. The Guardian report that the Red Devils have now shifted their attention to signing Tottenham’s 23-year-old English international, Dier in a move that could soften the north Londoners resolve about their stance on the midfielder as Jose appreciates him for his will to improve, tactical versatility and potential.

Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino may be willing to sanction the move for that price, as he looks to recoup some funds in a bid to bolster his own team. Dier has become a very important member of the first team in his three years at White Hart Lane, and has become one of the best enforcers in the league.

Mourinho is keen to add ‘steel’ to his midfield, which was often lacking grit on numerous occasions last season and he knows that signing a specialist defensive midfielder will help lift the defensive shackles on world record signing, Paul Pogba and help him transform to his very best.

Dier is a defensive midfielder, known for his impeccable timing of tackles passing ability and astute reading of the game which enables him to make interceptions easily. He has made 135 appearances for Tottenham, scoring on 8 occasions.

Interesting post….but like so many others on this tranfer pipe dream….ERIC DIER IS GOING NOWHERE!! Please get that into your skulls and wishful thinking.
First you try and entice MP with a Fergie dinner, then you try for Rose in exch for Shaw, then Kane … now Dier. Long gone are the days when you could lift your eyebrows at our players and they would gravitate over to OT in trance like fashion. Please just go and get lost! Regards.
