Manchester United supporters can expect to see five players make their senior bows tonight, even if only in friendly action.
New signings Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin are all expected to take part in this evening’s game against Club America of Mexico, while youngster Sean Goss should also be expected to participate.
United’s U21 coach Warren Joyce recently told MUTV that he was excited to see Goss get the opportunity to be with the first team.
‘Gossy did really well last year,’ said Joyce. ‘He’s a dependable lad and has got it all sorted when the ball comes to him with his pass selection. His technique is good and he’s worked really hard. He had an opportunity to train with the manager and he must have done something to catch the eye.
‘He needs to continue doing that on tour and we’ll see how well he can impress the manager and the rest of the staff.’
Goss could theoretically be the first German born player to play for Manchester United if Louis van Gaal is so inclined – born in Wegberg, the 19 year old could well become the answer to a fantastic trivia question in years to come. The midfielder is a boyhood United fan and has signed professional terms with the club two years ago. He played eight times in the U21 Premier League last season – scoring at Leicester in the 1-1 draw in April – as well as playing once in the Manchester Senior Cup and once in the Lancashire Senior Cup too
Club America have appointed Ignacio Ambriz as their new manager recently and signed Mexico international midfielder Javier Guemez.
Club America – who recently won the CONCACAF Champions’ League – normally play 442 with Dario Benedetto spearheading their forward line. However the Argentine will miss today’s game after suffering a sprained ankle.
The game is live on MUTV at 4AM BST.
