Spanish midfielder, Saul Niguez has stated that the club will replace France striker, Antoine Griezmann should he decide to leave the Wanda Metropolitano stadium. The 22-year-old central midfielder stated this in the wake of reports linking the former Real Sociedad man to Manchester United, and says no player is above Los Rojiblancos.
Griezmann, 26, has been rumoured to be close to a move to England this summer, as it is reported that he has grown frustrated with the might of Real Madrid and Barcelona, which has stopped him from winning trophies with the 2016 Champions league finalists.
As translated by Goal, Saul is quoted as saying:
“In the end, Antoine Griezmann can manage his future as he wishes, “He is with us. We are waiting for him in pre-season and finally his future he will decide.
“If Antoine Griezmann leaves we have [Fernando] Torres, [Kevin] Gameiro, [Angel] Correa and [Yannick] Carrasco.
“He is a very important player for us, we know the quality he has, but most importantly no one player is above the club.” he added.
Under the tutelage of Diego Simeone, Griezmann has grown in stature and is widely tipped as one of the best players in the world, and has scored 26 goals in 53 matches for the Madrid based club.
He is a fast attacker, known for his adaptability in any forward position. Since signing for Atletico in 2014, he has scored 83 goals in 160 matches for the 10-time La Liga champions.
