The 1938–39 season was Manchester United’s 43rd season in the Football League.

At Old Trafford a new medical room was added and the changing rooms were refurbished. Roofs was added to the terraces running down the sidelines at Old Trafford, which took covered accommodation up to 40,000.

Newly promoted back to the First Division, and playing with a team that had an average age of under 26, they secured their survival with a 14th place finish.
