How Man United could line-up with potential signing Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United have moved a step closer to securing the signing of French forward Antoine Griezmann after his agent claimed United have reached a “financial agreement” with Atletico Madrid, reports the Mirror.

The player, who has been described as one the finest attackers in the world, has been on the radar of Man United all season and it could eventually materialize if the words of his agent Vincent Rodriguez are to be taken seriously.

United have been poor in the final third and have relied heavily on the scoring prowess of Zlatan Ibrahimovic this season, and Jose Mourinho is keen on having Griezmann at Old Trafford to bolster the potency of his attacking line.

Though his signing may not break his compatriot, Paul Pogba record, he will still cost United up to £64 million to bring him to Old Trafford. However, United making it to the Champions League remains the main key to signing the 26-year-old.

Mourinho’s persistence to sign him is not far-fetched, Griezmann’s versatility is something else as he can play anywhere in the attacking area; on the right, left, through the middle or behind the striker, and that is enough proof that his arrival will not relegate Marcus Rashford again.

With Ibrahimovic United career potentially over following his knee injury, Griezmann could come him as a direct replacement. Mourinho would have enough attacking options at his disposal with Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan available.

It is difficult to predict how he may be deployed but here are some options;

He may be deployed behind the striker with Mkhitaryan and Martial on both flanks and Rashford leading the line in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Secondly, Griezmann may lead the attack with Rashford and Lingard on the flanks of a three-man attack in a 4-3-3 formation.
