Manchester United youngster Andrea Pereira has revealed that he is developing well with La Liga side Granada, with claims that he will be ready and good enough to lace his boot for United next season, this is according to reports.
The 21-year-old midfielder became the target top English clubs after impressing with former club PSV Eindhoven in the Manchester United Premier Cup. However, he favoured a move with the Old Trafford Landlords after being convinced by Sir Alex Fergusen.
In other to aid his development, the Belgian was sent on a season-long loan deal to Granada last summer where he has impressed – he has amassed 24 starts for Granada, scoring four goals and providing one assist in the La Liga this term.
He is expected to return to Old Trafford next term. He revealed that he is in constant communication with Jose Mourinho and Granada has helped improved his game.
“When I came, I told myself: it’s not Manchester United. It’s a good club, a good league, but not the best in the world,” he told The Guardian.
“At PSV we were always attacking and at United we always wanted the ball, then I came here and we’re defending. It’s hard to adapt, but it is good for me: I learnt a lot.
“I couldn’t defend at all. Now I’m a lot better.
“It’s a mental process and I would never have had this in Manchester.
“I know what it is now to have difficult games in a relegation team. I know what it is to have pressure for 80 minutes and then maybe in one counterattack need to score. Normally, it is the other way around at United.
“I would love to go back and play at Old Trafford, but if they say: ‘Andreas, we would like to loan you out again,’ or ‘we don’t want you any more,’ I don’t know what I am going to do. But the focus now is Granada.”
There is currently a dearth of quality midfielders at United – Paul Pogba has refused to stamp his authority in the midfield, despite being given some chances Maurouane Fellaini has simply refused to improve upon his game and the age of Michael Carrick means Mourinho has no choice but to bolster his midfield.
Although, Pereira is very much still young, he may be considered by Mourinho if he continues to improve his game.
