For a man that has won trophies upon trophies in his managerial career, Jose Mourinho doesn’t have anything to prove to anybody. He has won multiple league titles, domestic cups, Doubles, Trebles and a host of other minor triumphs. He has already won two trophies at Manchester United and is in line for a new contract at the club that could see him go past his normal three years at any club.
The Portuguese tactician is slowly starting to imprint himself on his squad and history suggests that it would end in success for the tactician. Mourinho is a man who doesn’t take chances on players that play below his standards. So many top players have struggled to cope with the high levels of expectation Mourinho places on them.
The Manchester United hierarchy are finally starting to move in his direction, giving him the players he wants as they risk losing him to other top teams in Europe, who will not think twice about appointing him. The signing of Sanchez is a pointer to the fact that Mourinho is getting the kind of players he feels can make a difference in our quest to return to the top of English and European football.
He has the clout and personality to attract the best players in world football as he did last year when the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic came to the club despite the lack of Champions League football. United are 12 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League, out of the League Cup after losing to Bristol City but the FA Cup and Champions League still represent opportunities to win something this season.
He is shaping the squad into what he likes and just like he did at Chelsea in his first and second spells and at Real Madrid, success invariably follows. More quality players will arrive next season to complement what is an already brilliant squad. United last won the Premier League in 2013, too long for a team of our standards but next season could be the serving of the soup Mourinho is cooking.
While Pep Guardiola and his band of players are wowing football fans at the moment, Mourinho is coming for them. They should be scared.
