Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is eyeing a summer swoop for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil whose current contract expires at the end of next season, according to reports from Football London.
The German World Cup Winners has been locked in contract discussions with the club but he is yet to agree to a new deal putting the Gunners in a difficult position.
And it will not go down well with the fans to lose their star man to the Red Devils after Robin Van Persie moved in that direction in 2013.
Both Mourinho and Ozil have worked together at Real Madrid when the Portuguese coach was in charge and has always been positive about the 28-year-old describing him as “the best No 10 in the world”. United will be hoping to take of the breaking down in contract talks as well as Mourinho relationship with his former player to secure a deal.
Ozil has not been at his best this season and has faced much criticism for his lack of impact in big matches, the recent being the 10-2 aggregate demolishing of Arsenal by Bayern Munich in the Champions League. He has only managed five goals and four assists in the league, although he remains one of the best creative midfielders in the world.
Ozil will be a good signing for United and will fit perfectly into their 4-2-3-1 in which they are yet to find a perfect number 10 to fit in.
However, United will face competition from Bayern Munich who are interested in his services which would seem a better offer for Arsenal. The London club will definitely prefer to sell him abroad than to a rival club.
Ozil moved in to the Emirates Stadium in 2013 in a deal worth deal £42.5 million.
It is left to see if Mourinho pull a surprise by bringing him to Old Trafford
