Manchester United Manager, Jose Mourinho has revealed he wasn’t a party to Andreas Pereira’s season-long loan move to Spanish Side, Valencia.
The midfielder decided to join the La Liga outfit after failing to feature for the Red Devils in the opening three games of the season despite featuring in their pre-season campaign.
For an evidently disappointed Mourinho, the Brazilian lacked the fighting spirit and shouldn’t have even considered walking away. The Portuguese who appreciates the talent of the player says, he has got all it takes to be a great midfielder and should have waited and fought his way into the United midfield.
“Andreas Pereira was a personal decision, a decision I don’t agree with, a decision I don’t think honestly is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me a little bit because I think he has the potential to be fighting for a position, fighting to for opportunities and to be a Manchester United player,” said Mourinho.
Pereira featured regularly for Granada while on loan at the Club last season and that could have inspired his decision to move on loan to enjoy another first team opportunity. But Mourinho wouldn’t take that for an excuse.
“His decision can be considered as a young player who wants to play every weekend but can also be considered a decision as a player that is not ready to fight for something difficult and it’s difficult to play in Manchester United’s midfield.
“You have to be ready to fight for the position and I am a bit disappointed he left. But, OK, it was his decision. I open the door for his decision.”
Despite saying he respects the decision of the 21-year-old, the former Real Madrid Boss however revealed he will exercise the right to recall the player if need be as he believes the Belgian-born midfielder has a future at United.
‘He has a long-term contract. We have the option to bring him back in January, so we have that situation under control. It is not a drama but it is a decision which disappoints me a little bit,” Mourinho added.
Since arriving at Old Trafford from Dutch Side, PSV in 2011, Pereira has made 13 senior appearances for the Red Devils. He has also featured for Brazil at Junior Levels.
