Kevin Pilkington Review : Bolton and Arsenal
A couple of good wins to get us back on track in the league. A routine win against Bolton and then a well earned victory at Arsenal. So, was the panic over the two losses against Blackburn and Newcastle an over-reaction – and are we still in a position to challenge City the whole way?
I don’t think it was an over reaction because they are games that we should be winning. But, all being said and done United are still in a great position to win the league. City haven’t been in this position for a long time (ever?!) so all the pressure is on them having spent so much.
The performance against Arsenal was one where we dominated, and Valencia made a big difference. Were you impressed with the performance at the Emirates?
Yeah – especially the first half. I thought we were excellent and looked dangerous going forward. Arsenal were very weak in the full back areas and United exploited that very well. Valencia played really well and looks like he is back to his best, which is a massive bonus.
Fergie dropped De Gea after his mistake against Blackburn – do you think he was right, and would you give Lindegaard a good run in the team now?
In all fairness he has struggled to come to terms with the Premiership. He has got huge potential which I’m sure he will fulfill but maybe it was a bit to soon for him. Lindergaard has done really well when he has been given the chance and I think he will be the first choice for the foreseeable future with De Gea most probably playing in the Europa games.
Since we last spoke we’ve got a new signing – a little ginger lad in midfield! What do you reckon? Any good? In all seriousness – do you think it’s a wise move by both United and Scholes?
Yeah he’s not a bad little player! Heard his tacklings not the best? Ha! I think it’s a fantastic move for Sir Alex and he has shown already that he has not lost an ounce of his ability. He will be a calming influence on the rest of the team and I hope he signs on for next season!
Danny Welbeck has been on fire in January, with 3 goals in 3 games including that vital winner against Arsenal. Are you expecting him to make a big difference in the title race?
I was listening to Gary Neville – who by the way talks so much sense – on Sky and Souness and when those two praise him, you know he is doing well. He is maturing into a top player and is backing it up with goals as well. I’m sure if he stays fit he will have a big impact on the title run in.
Welbeck has been in the news apparently demanding £40,000 a week for a new contract – while Ravel Morrison seems to generate headlines every time he writes something on twitter. How difficult will it be for Fergie to cope with these kind of stories, especially with social networking being so scrutinised by the media?

I think it’s more the agents demanding the money than the players… They have both got to realise that if they do well and are successful at United then they won’t have to worry about the financial side of it because that will take care of itself. I think Sir Alex will have every thing in order especially with the older ones in the changing room helping him out. The press obviously jump on any little thing but that will not affect the Gaffa.
