Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of signing Chelsea midfielder, Nemanja Matic, as the club’s third summer signing given that the club have all but ended their pursuit of Tottenham midfielder, Eric Dier.

The 23-year-old defender, who can also play as a defensive midfielder has seen three bids rejected for his signature by Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy who has stated categorically that the former Sporting Lisbon man is not for sale at any price.

The north London giants are not willing to let another first team player leave the club, following the sale of Kyle Walker to title rivals, Manchester City for £54m.

The Guardian reports that United will sign Matic for £50m, as Chelsea president, Roman Abramovich, has sanctioned the sale of the player as he feels at his age, the price is wonderful.

Mourinho is keen to reunite with his former player, as he apparently feels he will offer defensive maturity and stability to his midfield and give world record signing, Paul Pogba the platform to thrive further forward.

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has already signed Tiemoue Bakayoko as a replacement for Matic, who despite playing well last season, doesn’t really fit into his philosophy, as the Italian tactician prefers more mobile midfielders.

Matic is a powerful midfielder who was signed by Mourinho at Chelsea back in January 2014, and has been a vital member of two title winning teams in three years.
