Manchester United are reported to be in talks in a bid to sign a young energetic defender in the winter transfer window.
The defender in question is Brighton & Hove Albion right wing-back Tariq Lamptey who has nothing short of spectacular this season.
It is reported that United have joined a host of clubs vying for the signature of the 21-year-old defender.
Tariq joined the Seagulls from Chelsea after completing a £3m move in January 2020 transfer window and has since amassed 26 appearances, where he is seen bossing the right flank of Brighton’s defence.
Though Tariq is predominantly a defender, his attacking game is top notch and one of the reasons why he is tipped to get a call-up in the England national team.
Brighton have since slapped a 40 million pounds price tag on Tariq in a bid to keep him for a season or two.
United require reliable legs in the defence. The right-back spot has been a weak spot and one of the positions that need bolstering ahead of the second half of the Premier League season. Wan-Bissaka gifted Chelsea a penalty due to a mistimed tackle and that sums up his season thus far.
United are still an odds-on favourite by bookies such as Bet Bind to finish in the top four but conceding 22 goals in 13 games – more than the top nine clubs – is never a good stat and does not bode well for a club of United status.
