Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of Bayern Munich player, Renato Sanches. The Guardian reports that Jose Mourinho is plotting a move for the defensive midfielder, as he is growing frustrated about moves for Eric Dier and Nemanja Matic.
19-year-old Sanches has struggled since his big money move from Benfica last summer, and has been made available to rival teams for a whopping sum of £40m. Sanches was highly heralded before making the switch to the Bavarians, after a fantastic breakout season with the Portuguese giants Benfica, and an excellent European Championships with Portugal, as he helped the Seleccao win the trophy.
Sanches, the Portugal international, was heavily linked to a switch to Old Trafford prior to making a move to Bayern, and it now seems that, twelve months on, he is ready to reignite his career after a difficult first season outside Portugal.
Mourinho apparently believes in his ability, but faces competition from AC Milan who are also interested in his services. The Italian giants have recruited heavily in the summer’s transfer window, and view Sanches as a perfect player for their midfield, but a move may not materialize again after the £17m capture of Lazio’s Lucas Biglia.
With Sanches desperate to leave the 5-time European champions, and he not also being wanted at the club following the arrival of Corentin Tolisso and Sebastian Rudy, the fee is expected to drop down.
He is an all-action midfielder adept at playing as a defensive midfielder and also further forward. He made 17 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side last season, with 6 of them coming as starts in the Bundesliga.
