Failure to qualify for the Champions League will put Jose Mourinho in the same category as former manager Luis Van Gaal, who despite spending colosal sums failed to break into the top four of the Premier League.
Mourinho was heavily involved in the transfer market of last summer where he spent over £150m and shattered the transfer record of the world to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus.
However, knowing how pragmatic the Special One is, he is insatiable with mediocre performance and is keen to build on his relative success this season. If the reports making the rounds are anything to go by, United have their scout in Spain in a bid to secure deals for Espanyol duo Aaron Martin and David Lopez.
Espanyol took on Alaves in the La Liga last weekend and the Red Devils scout was spotted in the stance. The report claims Marin and Lopez were the stars tabbed by Toni Lima.
The aforementioned players are said to be first team players for Periquitos but it is Martin’s recent ascent to the first team that is sudden and impressive. Despite making his debut this season, he has established himself as a the first choice left back for the club.
Meanwhile, Man United are not the only club linked with a move for Martin but given the spending propensity of Jose Mourinho, he can certainly match the offers made by any other club.
The combine worth of both players is about €70m(£59.5m).
