Man United plots January swoop for highly coveted star dubbed as new Didier Drogba

Jose Mourinho is on a quest to turn this Manchester United team into a squad full of players who can embrace his philosophy. The 53 year old manager has reportedly set his sights on French wonderkid, Moussa Dembele. Goal via The Daily Mail reports that the 20 year old Celtic striker is on Mourinho’s shortlist to lead his strike force, and would make a move for the highly rated forward in January.

It also claims that Mourinho scouted the France U21 star three times last season before he opted to play for Celtic. The former Fulham man has grown in stature since swapping England for Scotland, and under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic Park, has already plundered in 16 goals, making him one of the most highly-sought players in the whole of Europe.

Dembele was also watched by United representatives in the 3-2 win over England U21s on Monday, a game in which he dazzled. Before moving to Celtic, he was targeted by a host of top European clubs. The likes of PSG, Chelsea and Arsenal all thought of making a move for him, but ultimately failed to do so, allowing Celtic the chance to snap him up.

The player, himself felt Scotland was a huge stepping stone in his career, as a great impact in the Scottish Championship would elevate his status, as he eyes a move to an elite European club. Dembele was particularly exceptional in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City in the Champions League, attracting interest from top clubs for his signature.

He has been identified as the new Didier Drogba by Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea legend spearheaded a new era of dominance for the 53 year old manager while at Chelsea, as he feels there are similarities between both players. Dembele is fast, powerful and exhibits remarkable finishing. He has a contract with the Scottish champions till the summer of 2020.

In 24 matches this season, he has netted an astonishing 16 goals. Despite being flattered by the interest, Dembele feels it is too soon to leave Celtic as he aims to develop under Brendan Rodgers, who improved Luis Suarez. A big bid and personal convincing by Jose Mourinho may still sway his mind, though.
