Man United top transfer targets flop in Europe

It was a night to forget for the duo of Manchester United targets, Antoine Griezmann and Kyilla Mbappe in the Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Griezmann’s Atletico Madrid lost 0-3 away to Real Madrid while Mbappe’s Monaco lost 0-2 at home to Juventus in the Competition, on the nights when United had all eyes were on the two forwards.

The two France internationals are at the centre of a bidding war with top clubs across Europe vying for their signatures. While United are at the forefront of signing the pair, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Man City as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are ready to steal a march on the Reds.

However, the performances of the duo have generated different reactions from the media with some raising the question if they are worth splashing huge amounts of money on.

Atletico have slapped a price tag of £86 million on Antoine while Monaco will only listen to offers in the region of £100 million for Mbappe, but both had poor nights for the respective clubs in the Champions League.

Man United have reportedly agreed a £280,000 per week contract with Antoine but his poor show against Zinedine Zidane side popped up the question if he will rise up to the occasion in big games.

Unlike Antoine, Mbappe caused few problems for Juventus with his pace and positioning but the Old Lady defence ensured they held on to their clean sheets record and denied the 18-year-old any chance of adding to his 24 goals tally this season.

The teenage sensation wasted two great chances to put his side ahead before Gonzalo Higuain opened the scoring. He also had fewer touches and completed fewer passes than any other player on the pitch.

Nevertheless, Antoine and Mbappe are one of the finest strikers in the world and one poor night is not enough to judge their glittering career so far.
