Alvaro Morata has been linked to a summer move to Old Trafford, and reports now suggest that a move is on the cards, but a sensational twist has been added.
Reports in Spain suggest that the Real Madrid are pushing for David de Gea and that international teammate, Morata is part of the transfer in a player plus cash capacity. Don Balon(via Sky sports) report that the 20-time English champions are now in the driving seat for Morata’s signature.
Jose Mourinho has been on the lookout for a new striker, after Zlatan’s Ibrahimovic’s contract was not renewed, following his knee injury and is reportedly keen on the Real Madrid forward, as he has been impressed with his development and willingness to improve in recent years.
The Portuguese tactician knows that a quality striker is needed to mount a sustained title challenge, and knows that at 24, Morata is still yet to reach his prime. The De Gea situation in the deal may be too much for him to handle, but Mourinho knows that keeping an unhappy player against his wishes is counterproductive.
The Spanish No. 1 had been keen on a move back to Spain in recent years, as he knows that being Madrid’s No. 1 is a sure way to impose himself as the national team’s first choice shot-stopper.
Morata is a striker known for his finishing prowess, hold-up play, movement and positioning. Despite struggling for game time under Zinedine Zidane last season, he still managed to score 20 times last season, and will be an upgrade on the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
