If reports making the round is anything to go by, then we are set for another record breaking transfer this summer as Manchester United open talks with Neymar’s agent in a bid to lure him to Old Trafford.
Despite bolstering his squad in the summer, Jose Mourinho’s men have struggled in the League this term and the Portuguese tactician has identified Neymar as one man that can give more bite to his attack.
It was Manchester United’s signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus that set the record of transfer in the world. Pogba was signed for a whooping £89m last summer but £173million [€200m] has been mooted for the signing of Neymar.
Neymar, 25, joined Barcelona from Santos after so much transfer tussle in the summer of 2013 and the skillful winger has since imposed himself in the La Liga as a star player – he completes a trident of Barcelona’s attack that has inflicted heavy damages on their opponents.
According to the Metro, Neymar spoke about his admiration for the Premier League and revealed that he would fancy a spell there.
“The Premier League is a championship that amazes me.
‘I like the playing style and the teams. And who knows, someday, I would like to play at it, yes.
‘I admire Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool — these are the teams that are always there fighting.
‘And then you have high-level coaches like Mourinho and Guardiola. These are coaches with whom any player would like to work.
We may see some players exit Old Trafford this summer – players like Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney, and Luke Shaw have all been linked with moves away from the club and Mourinho will be looking to replace the aformentioned players.
Regardless of the amount bidded for Neymar, it will be difficult for the player to move away from Barcelona.
