Manchester United hopeful of completing 2 transfers this week

Manchester United are closing in on the completion of two transfer deals. The Red Devils are monitoring a number of key players all around Europe and it would seem that two deals are nearing completion at The Theatre of Dreams. Alvaro Morata is expected to join the club before the end of the week while Wayne Rooney is closing in on a return to boyhood club, Everton.

Manchester United had been keen to make a marquee signing to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who suffered a nasty knee injury back in April which ended his United career. To that end, Alvaro Morata is touted to replace him as the Real Madrid forward is keen to leave the Spanish giants as he struggled for game time under Zinedine Zidane last season.

Jose Mourinho knows that incoming players have to be complemented by sales, and is set to sanction the free transfer of Rooney to Everton. The club won’t get a transfer fee, but will be willing to do a deal as his transfer would lessen the wage burden by £250k a week, that could be spread over other targets.

According to Neil Custis of The Sun, Rooney could be an Everton player before the end of the week, as he has been reportedly withdrawn from the club’s tour of USA, with manager, Mourinho desperate to sign Morata before Sunday when the club jet out for preseason tour.

Rooney has scored over 250 goals in his United career after signing from Everton in 2004, but has suffered a huge decline in form in the past 2 years, enduring his worst season as a United player last season.

I am interested to know what an “incoming arrival” is! Is it the opposite of an outgoing arrival, or an incoming departure?
