After seeing his heroics this season and at Liverpool on Saturday, Spanish giants, Real Madrid could be set for yet another onslaught on signing 26-year-old goalkeeper, David de Gea. The Spanish footballer has been in sublime form all season, registering his seventh clean sheet in just eight matches at Anfield and is widely adjudged to be the best at his trade in the world as many feel he has usurped Bayern keeper, Manuel Neuer.
Diario Gol (via Mirror) report that Real legend, Cristiano Ronaldo wants boss, Zinedine Zidane to prioritize the signing of De Gea next summer in a bid to strengthen the side. The former Atletico Madrid man was close to a move to The Bernabeu back in 2015 but the deal failed to materialize due to paperwork gaffe that has soured the relationship between the clubs. The 6ft 4″ keeper has always reiterated his desire to go back to his home country of Spain to be close to his girlfriend and family but won’t want to force a move so as not to damage the special relationship he has built with the fans.
As per same report, the player has established himself as the undisputed starter for the Spanish national team and is quietly interested in a move to Real Madrid where he feels he will have a better chance of winning the UEFA Champions League. Diario Gol also reports that Ronaldo wants Zidane to move for Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois if the deal for De Gea fails to materialise.
If Real do move for De Gea, it is most likely to surpass the world record£34.7m fee for a goalkeeper Manchester City paid for Ederson this year. He is a classy player known for his reflexes, shotstopping and extreme concentration. He joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011 to replace legendary keeper, Edwin Van der Sar and has made over 280 appearances, winning the league, League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League, along with some Community shield titles.
