Manchester United to announce done deal today, major breakthrough made

By Dave Marshall

The long-drawn out transfer of Brazilian international, Fred appears to be nearing a close as Daily Star claim that the Central Midfielder could complete his move to Manchester United tomorrow. The player, who is with the Brazilian squad for the World Cup has been the subject of interest from United, with the club confirming that an agreement had been reached with Shakhtar Donetsk for the player

Work permit issues and personal terms have held up the deal, but it seems that both obstacles have now been overcome with United expected to finally unveil him tomorrow.

There had been talk that United were skeptical about signing Fred after he sustained an ankle injury during a Brazilian national team training section that has kept him from action so far in Russia.

United boss, Jose Mourinho is keen to reinforce his options in the middle of the park following the imminent exit of Marouane Fellaini and the retirement of club legend, Michael Carrick at the end of the last campaign and is still pushing ahead with the move.

Fred is a player that impressed in the Champions League with Shakhtar, helping the Ukrainian club to a Round of 16 finish, where they lost to eventual semi-finalists, Roma. He had been linked with a January move to Manchester City though the move broke down as both clubs couldn’t reach a compromise on the fee. Fred is an all-action midfielder known for his interception skills and his ability to offer his skill in both attacking and defensive situations.

He joined Shakhtar from Internacional in 2013 and has since made over 150 appearances for the Ukrainian giants and will be expected to form a strong central midfield trident with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
