Mourinho confirms Zlatan Ibrahimovic nears return ahead of Manchester City game

By Dave Marshall

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has stated that veteran striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is nearing full fitness, a brilliant news given that we take on Manchester City on Sunday in a game that promises to define our season.

The former Sweden International has missed our last two matches but could feature against Pep Guardiola’s league leaders. We won yesterday against Russian giants, CSKA Moscow to seal top spot in our Champions League group stage. The win was hard fought as we came back from a goal down to defeat the Russians 2-1 and match a new club record.

Our win on Tuesday night made it 40 matches without defeat at Old Trafford, and we can set a new record if we stop City from winning on Sunday. Ibrahimovic has only returned from a 7-month layoff with a knee injury but returned in the victim over Watford.

Manager, Jose Mourinho has stated that he is suffering from fatigue, but he returned to feist team training ahead of the clash with CSKA Moscow. United want the player back and firing, as Romelu Lukaku has only managed 2 goals in his last 14 matches but scored the equaliser against the Moscow outfit yesterday.

City currently hold an eight-point advantage over us in the title race after a run of 13 straight victories but we are high on confidence given that we defeated Arsenal last time out 3-1 away at The Emirates.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho aimed a thinly veiled dig at Guardiola who suggested that City playmaker, David Silva could miss the clash due to injury.

Mourinho was quoted as saying: “Truth is that [Eric] Bailly is out for the weekend, [Phil] Jones a chance, [Marouane] Fellaini a chance, Zlatan a big chance and [Nemanja] Matic is injured, but will play for sure,” “[Michael] Carrick no chance “That is the truth, like Lacazette and David Silva. It’s all the truth.” He added.

United know that anything short of victory will all but dent to our title aspirations and the return of Ibrahimovic is a big plus to us. The Swede was majestic last season after he signed on a free transfer. He helped us win the Europa League and EFL Cup as he netted an unbelievable 28 goals in 46 matches.
