Mourinho makes enquiry over classy defender – report

By Dave Marshall

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has identified Bayern Munich defender David Alaba as the man to solve the club’s left back problem. The Austrian defender has not hidden his intention to test himself elsewhere after achieving so much at Bayern, and United could pounce on his willingness to depart the Allianz Arena.

According to the Express, Jose Mourinho is desperate to land a left back following the struggles of Luke Shaw and the advancing age of Ashley Young, who has been the club’s first choice in the position for much of the campaign.

Speaking in March, Alaba said that he could leave the German champions for a new challenge. He said, “I am aware that this decision will come to me and II still feel very comfortable here, but I can also imagine taking a different path, taking the next step or looking for a new challenge,” “I am at an age where I have had a lot of experience and where I would like to take the next step in my career.” he added.

Alaba’s stock has fallen slightly in recent years as his clubs have failed to win the Champions League, leaving Real Madrid defender, Marcelo to regain the unofficial title of being the best left back in the world. United are looking at a number of players such as Danny Rose and Alex Sandro to replace Shaw, though Alaba’s willingness to move could mean that United will place premium on bringing him to the Theatre of Dreams.

Alaba is a classy left footed defender that is known for his all-round play on the left side of defence. He has won multiple titles at the German outfit, most notably winning the Champions League in 2013. Since making his Bayern debut in 2009, he has made 300 appearances for the Stern des Suterns, scoring 26 goals in the process.
