Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has spoken about the potential arrival of Alexis Sanchez in a way that shows that the deal could be done soon. The Portuguese manager has deflected talk about a move for the 29-year-old before, but has been quoted as saying he is confident the deal to bring the Chilean superstar to Old Trafford could be done soon.
Reports in the media in recent days have suggested that we have hijacked the Sanchez deal from Manchester City who are stalling on taking the player to the Etihad as his wage demands of £350k-a-week could cause unrest in the club’s dressing room.
United playmaker, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been touted to be part of the deal bringing Sanchez to Manchester, but it is believed the Armenian international is stalling on moving to London as he would take a pay cut to play for the FA Cup holders while he is also concerned about the club’s league position and the prospect of playing Champions League football.
The former Dortmund star was left out of United’s squad that defeated Stoke 3-0 on Monday night, leading to more questions about his future.
Speaking after the victory on Monday, Mourinho spoke about Sanchez as quoted by manutd.com. He said, “I am not confident, but also not unconfident. Just relaxed and we have the feeling that he is an Arsenal player. We have the feeling that he can stay there. But also the feeling that he can move and if he moves, I think we have a chance. But, I think most probably, a player like him has other big clubs interested. Who knows?” he added.
Sanchez has been initially favoured to join City, but is now close to joining United, with the only delay being the conviction of Mkhitaryan to move the other way.
