What a crazy weekend it was, I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised as this entire season has been crazy. Obviously I was gutted after the City game but it so easily could have been different if Berba had tucked away one of those early chances. Their goal came after errors from our side and at this level you expect to be punished but there was still plenty of time for us to get back into it. We just didn’t seem to be at the races. At least all the talk of a treble has gone away for another year and we can concentrate on winning our title back. For me the European Cup is a bonus and with a little luck we could go all the way. Oh just a quick mention for the Scousers, it just shows why I love our league so much, if that game had taken place in Spain or Italy Arsenal would have won and Liverpool would have rolled over, not in England and even though it will kill them to see us lift that 19th title they still turned up and put a shift in. Cheers.
Onto Newcastle, I think they have had a pretty decent season, there was all that trouble with Chris Hughton leaving, Alan Pardew coming in and all the fans protesting against Mike Ashley but you have to say it has sort of worked out. They are going to be safe and might even finish in the top half of the table so although no one would ever admit it, Ashley may not be the worst Chairmen in the world. Things like, selling Andy Carroll hasn’t helped his popularity but who would have turned down 35 million, not me!!! Anyway all that is in the past now and they have to move on, I expect them to have a big summer with lots of players coming in and going out. We have a good record at St James Park recently, I remember us scoring loads of goals there, 4 in 2005, 5 in 2008 and 6 in 2003. That’s because they like to play open and attractive football which often plays into our hands. I would expect Wazza to return and score a couple and obviously Chicharito will be on target. I am really looking forward to the game, let’s spank the Geordies.
DANGER MAN: Joey Barton
Love him or hate him, he usually has an impact on the game. Since the Toon have been promoted he has probably been one of their best players, creating more goals than he scores these days, getting into slightly less trouble and even touting himself for an England recall. I am not sure he is playing well enough to get into the national team but if his name wasn’t Joey Barton he would have a better chance. If my memory serves me right he has always done ok against us in the past and this will mean a lot to him being ex-City. I would expect our midfield to keep an eye on him and hopefully he has a quiet night!!!
Score Prediction : We are going to win 2-4, The Little Pea with our first goal!!!
United Nights – just a brief word for the next United Nights, which will be on the 7th May to celebrate Norman Whiteside’s birthday. Norman will be the only guests that night, and you can buy tickets right now from the website.
Yolkie’s line up prediction
Paul Scholes’ red card and Darren Fletcher only fairly recently returning to training means that if United are to go 4-4-2 – as I think we will – and if we are to go full strength – again, I think we will – then we are likely to start Anderson alongside Carrick. Ryan Giggs might return to the squad but I still don’t imagine he will start, while Rooney should be straight back in. It’s entirely likely that Smalling might play and Rio given a rest, though with the veteran defender’s return to fitness, I’m predicting he will start only because as a professional he wants to play every game right now.
It is hard to predict a winner in this match as I expect Newcastle to play their best football and put up a great fight but I fancy this match to be a high scoring and thrilling affair. An unexpected draw is also a possible result.
I reckon Giggs and Smalling will start.
Looking forward to getting back on track with our hunt for number 19.
