Mourinho drops hint that Anthony Martial will play for Man United next season

Manchester United overcame Real Madrid in what was a dress rehearsal of the European Super Cup in a fortnight, with an entertaining 1-1 draw in the International Champions Cup match held in the USA. The Red Devils were particularly impressive in the match and Anthony Martial, the French forward earned plaudits for his performance, especially the manner in which he bamboozled the Real defence in the build up to the goal scored by Lingard.

The 21-year-old has been the subject of interest from a host of European sides this summer but Jose Mourinho has now hinted that the former Monaco man could be set for a stay at The Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking after the game while fielding questions about Martial’s quality, he said:

“Exactly, but obviously we want more consistency in his talent. I think today was positive for him, that’s why I left him for 90 minutes on the pitch. [himself], he was trying things and it’s important in these friendly matches to try things, which he did.

“I think was good for Anthony, for his confidence.

“He is a young player, there’s still time to learn, still time to improve, still time to develop and it’s also his personality.

“I can say that he is training better than before, he’s working harder than before. It’s a question to bring his talent more in a consistent way,” he added.

United have been linked to a big money move for Ivan Perisic but with that move stalling, Martial could become like a new signing. He was widely criticised by his manager on numerous occasions last season, as he struggled to replicate his first season performances in his second campaign. However with he looking more relaxed and with the huge shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic out of the club, he is expected to have a fruitful campaign and help the Old Trafford outfit compete fiercely next season.

He is a classy forward capable of playing as a striker and also as a left winger. He combines a wide array of skills such as dribbling, pace and finishing and has been compared to Premier League legend, Thierry Henry.

He joined United as a teenager in a whopping £36m deal in 2015 and has since scored 25 goals in 91 matches for the 20-time English champions.
