Manchester United defender Rafael has been photographed in France ahead of a medical before his move to Ligue 1 side Lyon.
Rafael has been at Old Trafford since 2008 and has been a huge fan favourite for his energetic style but, despite emerging as the first choice right back in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season (and coincidentally, the last time United won the league), the Brazilian full back has fallen out of favour in the changes of management.
His absence from David Moyes’ first choice team was seen as one of the Scot’s biggest errors while supporters were hopeful of a change under Louis van Gaal. However, on those occasions where the defender was given a chance, he often showed signs of ill-discipline and rustiness which did not help his cause considering that Van Gaal had already begun to favour Antonio Valencia.
The player appeared to confirm that he was moving by thanking a supporter who wished him well on his transfer, and, later, he was photographed in France after speculation he had travelled to the country.
Lyon have reportedly offered a fee of £2.1m which, even for United, seems like a tremendously poor piece of business. The 25 year old has played 169 times for the Red Devils, scoring five goals. He has one three Premier Leagues, a League Cup, and has two caps for the Brazilian national side.
